LIFEBOAT

DESIGN COMPETITION, 2021

The LifeBoat is an innovative project designed to enhance the sustainability and resiliency of coastal cities in the face of climate change, sea-level rise, and other challenges. Acting as an adaptable affordable housing complex, it integrates self-sufficient systems such as nuclear fusion energy, water collection and purification, transportation hubs, food production, and modular housing. These systems ensure the building can function independently and support the city during disasters, while also promoting housing equity and cultural resiliency. The project, exemplified by its proposed site in Boston, Massachusetts, addresses a theoretical two-meter sea-level rise by 2050, offering solutions for hospital overflow and environmental refugees. The LifeBoat also emphasizes green spaces, blending nature with urban living to foster community health and connection. Its replicable model provides a decentralized network of support, making it a vital component in the future of urban resilience.
